Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister Gen. Kahinda otafiire has promised to table a cabinet memorandum to have the number of judges increased to manage the ever increasing case backlog.

By January 2016, the case backlog in courts of judicature had raised up to 160,000.

Now according to Otafiire, other factors notwithstanding, the main cause of case backlog and delayed justice has been due to inadequate judges to dispose such cases in time.

He has now promised to advocate for more judges and magistrates at all levels to administer justice to the nation.

Currently the Judiciary has a total of 54 Grade II magistrates, 200 Grade One magistrates, 47 Chief Magistrates, 4 Registrars, 33 Deputy Registrars, 11 Assistant Registrars, 50 High Court judges, 14 Constitutional Judges and nine Justices of the Supreme Court.
