The key suspect in the murder of Khan Kakama, the 1 year old child who was kidnapped and killed 2years ago has been sentenced to 30 years in jail. Gordon Tumusiime was sentenced after he pleaded guilty to charges of murder.

His co-accused Brian Sajjabi and the maid Molly Nabaasa denied the charges and will face trial beginning on 16th July.

High Court judge Justice Faith Mwonda has directed that the exhibits which were recovered from the convict including 2 motor cycles, 5.5million shillings, and a land agreement worth 2.1 million shillings be given to the deceased’s father.

The exhibits are meant to help the deceased parents recover part of the ransom the killers had demanded worth 30m shillings, which they received but still murdered the child.

Khan Kakama is son to Mr. Sven Karekaho, of Uganda Revenue Authority and Naome Karekaho, of the National Environment Management Authority. Naomie sat in court and cried quietly as the sentence was read out.

The baby went missing from the parents’ home at Bugolobi flats on 8th June 2010, only for his body to be discovered in a swamp, wrapped in a plastic bag after a frantic search.

Justice Faith Mwondha says the offence carries a maximum sentence of death but she had chosen the 30 years, since the accused is a first offender, who has been in prison for close to 2years and pleaded guilty to the charges.
