Karamoja RDCs fault government on neglected diseases

Government have been urged to take the neglected tropical diseases in Karamoja as a serious concern

The call was made by the RDCs of Karamoja during the advocacy meeting for the neglected tropical diseases organized by the ministry of health in Moroto.

Samuel Ashaka the resident district commissioner for Abim said the presence of neglected tropical diseases in Karamoja region was affecting the livelihood of the people in the region.

He pointed out diseases such as jiggers, trachoma, elephantiasis and others which are part of neglected tropical disease that are affecting the lives of their people.

He jigger has started claiming the lives of Kaabong residents while many others have been deformed.

The leaders have asked the ministry of health to recruit a vector control officer in Karamoja

However, representing the ministry, Dr. Esridah Tukahebwa has blamed the outbreak of these diseases on the poor hygiene and appealed the leaders in the region to sensitized the  community on the importance of promoting good hygiene.
