The Chief of Defence Forces Gen Edward Katumba Wamala has distanced himself from the joint military and police operation in Kasese which left over 100 people dead and several others incarcerated.

The attack last month also left the Rwenzururu cultural leader Charles Wesley Mumbere detained and charged with murder.

While appearing before parliament’s committee on Defence and Internal Affairs, Gen Wamala said he was not in Kasese at the time of the clashes and the final attack on the Palace.

The committee chaired by Mityana Woman MP Jidith Nabakooba also learnt that the CDF did not issue the assault order on the Omusinga’s palace.

Responding to a question from Kaweme South MP Mubarak Munyagwa on justification of the force meted against the King prior to his arrest on the fateful day, Wamala said that he could not “micro-manage” the situation.
