The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has embarked on a 6 billion shilling Feacal Sludge Management project to promote sanitation and hygiene in the city.

The project is being funded by Bill and Melinda Gates, a UK based foundation.

The Director of public health and Environment, Dr. David Sserukka says the project will focus on collection, transportation, safe disposal and treatment of feacal sludge from pit-latrines and septic tanks.

Dr. Sserukka says these services will be paid for but at a reduced discount.

He adds that KCCA will not construct more city public pit-latrines but rather give them a new facelift while carrying out this project.
