The Uganda Law Society has threatened to strike over delayed appointment of a substantive Chief Justice.

The country has had no Chief Justice for over one year, since the term of office for Justice Benjamin Odoki expired.

Addressing the media today, Ruth Ssebatindira the president of the Uganda Law Society said the independence of the judiciary has greatly been undermined due absence of a substantial head.

The lawyers are now set to petition the president seeking his urgent response to their concerns or they resort to industrial action.
