As local council nominations kick off today, a number of aspiring councilors in Mukono district have asked that nomination forms be translated into the local languages.
Sarah Najjuuko from Goma Division says this will ease their work because many cannot comfortably communicate or read the English language.
However, the Mukono District Returning Officer Sarah Namugambe Karyowa says this is impossible because such changes can only be sanctioned by parliament through their area MPs.

The Electoral Commission today begins receiving nomination papers for candidates vying for elective offices under the Local Council structure.
According to the program released by the commission chairperson Eng Badiru Kiggundu, the nomination exercise will be conducted in three days.
Kiggundu says the elective positions at the Local Council level include the district chairpersons, directly elected councillors, District councillors representing Women and the Youth among others.
He says at sub-county level, town council chairpersons and their councilors will be nominated.
Kiggundu notes that in Kampala, nominations will be conducted at commission division offices at Ntinda and not at the Headquarters.
Meanwhile the city lord mayor Erias Lukwago who is seeking re-election is booked for nomination tomorrow.
