Media practitioners are challenged to exercise their right to know with discretion.

This comes as Ugandans today joins the rest of the world to mark the International Day for Universal Access to Information under the theme: “The Right to Know – Building Back Better with Access to Information.”

Addressing journalists earlier about enforcement of the Access to information Act, state minister for ICT and National Guidance, Godfrey Kabyanga cautioned them against running into trouble in the process of getting information.

He specifically asked the media practitioners to be mindful of the right to privacy of others and misinformation bugs.

Commemorative events for the International Day for Universal Access to Information are focusing on the central role of access to information legislation in various countries.

The 2021 International Day for Universal Access to Information has also been designed to mobilize governments, civil society and decision-makers to meet the goals of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable development, notably the 16th Goal which calls for the promotion of “just, peaceful and inclusive societies.” by mobilizing governments, decision makers and civil society.
