The Cooperative movement has been tasked to support their respective immediate communities if more Ugandans are to join cooperatives.

The call was made by the state minister for Cooperatives Fredrick Gume during a market clean up exercise at St Balikuddembe market in Kampala this morning.

The market clean up exercise was part of the various activities lined up for the Cooperative week which commenced to Friday last and will be climaxed with a symposium in Jinja town on July 7th.

Earlier, the group launched The Cooperator Magazine which documents the cooperative movement’s journey, highlighting the opportunities and challenges.

Other activities include the IK Musaazi Memorial lecture to be held at Makere University on Wednesday.

The 96th International Co-operative Day will marked under the theme; “Sustainable Consumption and production of Goods and Services”
