Cases of Hepatitis B have increased in Adjumani district with new infections reported every day.
According to a data from the District Health Office, the prevalence rate of Hepatitis B virus in the district stands at 11%.
Speaking during emergency meeting on Hepatitis B virus on Monday, Dr Ronald Ogwal, who represented the District Health Officer, says the district doesn’t have a budget for management of Hepatitis B virus that has continued to kill people.

Hepatitis B is a viral disease which affects the liver and mode of transmission is like that of HIV/AIDS. He adds that to make matters worse the residents in the area do not have correct information concerning the viral disease.

Mr Richard Atepo, a health educator at Adjumani hospital said in the year 2011-2014, at least 1,472 people were tested for Hepatitis B virus in the hospital out of which 309 tested positive.

Meanwhile, 463 people tested from private clinics and 78 of them were found to be carrying the virus last week.
