The Anti Corruption Court has cleared two of the health ministers of any wrong doing in a case in which they were accused of embezzling 1.6 billion shillings from the Global Alliance for vaccine and immunization meant for fighting HIV/ AIDS, malaria and Tuberculosis.

The three including Alex Kamigisha, Jim Muhwezi and Mike Mukula were jointly charged with causing financial loss, theft, abuse of office and embezzlement.

The two, Jim Muhwezi and Dr Alex Kamugisha have been cleared by the Anti Corruption Court Chief Magistrate Irene Akakwansa on grounds that they were not directly responsible for the loss since all the monies were signed for by the former ministry of health permanent secretary Muhammed Kezzala.

However, court has ordered Mike Mukula to defend himself on charges of embezzlement of 210m shillings, which he is said to have signed for travel on behalf of the First Lady between February and October 2008.

The said money was meant to facilitate advocacy programs in different parts of the country.

The Chief Magistrate said that Mukula is better placed to explain the expenditure of the sh.210m, and ordered him to present his defense beginning on September 7th.
