By Damali Mukhaye:

President Museveni has written to the Prime Minister, Dr Ruhakana Rugunda, directing him to communicate to all government agencies to limit taxes imposed on informal business groups.

In a letter dated July 22 2017 Museveni directed that all operators of all informal businesses should buy an annual license instead of paying daily fees and his emphasis is on market vendors and taxi operators

He noted that he is aware that operators pay an annual license fee of about Shs 50,000 adding that they should not be charged any daily fees.

He says that once the license is set, businesses should operate without hindrance along the route they have been licensed to operate from for the whole year.

The president has further directed that there should be no fees levied for vendors in Kampala and those upcountry advising that this should instead be one consolidated fee.

The Prime Minister, Dr Ruhakana Rugunda confirmed receipt of the President’s directive on phone yesterday.
