President Museveni says that corruption continues to be a major challenge as Uganda celebrates 50 years of independence.

Addressing journalists at his home in Rwakitura, the president said that public service has been worst hit with the vice affecting service delivery.

He however says that the fight against the vice is on and progress has been made with key institutions like the army, Uganda revenue authority and Kampala that is now under government.

The president also says that another challenge has been ignorance among the social class members who continue to engage in irrelevant debate.

He however says that despite the hiccups, the country has registered great progress as far as peace; Literacy, Democracy, and regional integration are concerned.

The president says that he is also proud that the problem of electricity is slowly coming down despite earlier opposition from the 6th and 7th parliament.

The president was addressing the media on the successes and failures of his government as the country marks 50 years of independence.

Meanwhile, President Museveni has scoffed at the Mengo government over its plan to mourn on Independence Day instead of celebrating.

This follows reports that Mengo government will mourn instead of celebrating on Independence Day to show concern over the failure by government to return its properties.

He adds that there is a group of people misleading Uganda in Mengo instead of showing Ugandans the opportunities Buganda government has been given over the other regions.

He asserts that government returned all property concerning culture and the remaining will be returned when regional governments come into place.
