By Ruth Anderah.

Lawyers representing Mukono municipality Member of Parliament Betty Nambooze Bakireke have petitioned the Human Rights commission seeking for her immediate release.

According to their petition they want Uganda Human Rights commission to invoke the powers enshrined in article 53 [2] of the constitution to order for immediate release so that she can travel to India for specialized medical treatment.

Her lawyers from Lukwago and Company advocates say their client was scheduled to travel to India for a medical review and specialized treatment upon recommendation by the physician in the same facility who operated on her spinal cord.

It’s alleged that on Saturday June 16thNambooze was transferred to Kiruddu Hospital where she is currently hospitalized and lacks adequate facilities to address her health challenges.

Namboze is still confined as police officers have been deployed at her ward to maintain 24-hour surveillance and restrict her movements.
