The National Cultural Center is on the brink of closing due to accumulated workers’ salary arrears.
According to the center’s Executive Director Francis Peter Ojede, government contributes only Sh27 million to the center annually, out of wage bill of 972 million leaving Sh945 million only.

Appearing before parliament’s committee on gender, Ojede said urgent action must be taken to bail the center out.

He explained that even though the center makes some money, the expenditure keeps shooting up, calling for government intervention in the next financial year.

Also the National Cultural Center’s structual statue is in a worrying state exposing it to an fire threat. The poor state of several cultural sites is affecting their performances.

According to the center’s Executive Director Francis Peter Ojede, , the National theater is in dilapidated state with leaking loafing fs, and poor wiring , which expose them to fire outbreak.

He explained that the center currently require 2.2 billion to renovate some of the key culture centers including normal gallery.

He adds that the renovations are set to begin next financial year, if their request is honored in this 2015/2016 budget.
