By Shamim Nateebwa:

The Uganda Cancer Institute has announced that the newly acquired modern radio therapy machine will be in use by mid- December 2017.

This is after the institute acquired the first certificate or comprehensive warrant from International Atomic Energy Agency.

The institute’s director Dr. Jackson Orem says they are now working on final phrases of installing the machine as they await the second certificate to be issued by the International Atomic Energy Agency.

Orem says the official commissioning of the machine will be done on January 16th January 2018.

After it is installed, the new radio therapy machine is expected to handle 100 patients daily, each in 45minutes and free of charge.

This, Dr. Orem says will cut down the number of patients who have to go abroad for cancer treatment.
