The newly appointed Deputy Chief Justice, Alphonse Owiny-Dollo says Uganda has no lessons to pick from the Kenyan Supreme Court ruling, which nullified the re-election of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The Kenyan Supreme Court faulted the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission of Kenya for failure to conduct a free and fair election and ordered a fresh election in an unprecedented ruling last month.

The court decision was hailed by different people especially the opposition in Uganda which asked that the judiciary borrows a leaf from Kenya.

However, speaking to journalists shortly he appeared before parliament’s appointments committee for vetting this morning, Justice Owiny-Dollo said that instead, it is Kenya that picked lessons from Uganda.

Justice Owiny-Dollo has also vowed to stand by the constitution once approved by parliament.

He has also rejected allegations that he is a cadre in the ruling National Resistance Movement party.
