Joseph Musana, the Katonga region police spokesperson says the accident claimed lives of six people from the same family who were coming from an introduction party in Butambala district and five others from another family who were going for the last funeral rites in Gomba district.

The six people were traveling in an Ipsum registration number UAP 825A while the others were in a commuter taxi No. UAZ 252M.

Musana says preliminary investigations show that the driver of the taxi was speeding and driving recklessly, it swraved and rammed head-on into the Ipsum.

Both vehicles are damaged beyond repair and the wrackage has been towed to Mpigi Central Police Station.

Some of the deceased include Ruth Mutesi, a clinical officer at Mpigi Health Center IV, Tapie Wakabulya, Monica Mukebezi, Ivan Mutalya and a one Michael, all from Kaliro District.

The others are the taxi driver Mande Senera, Yusuf Kiggundu, Joan Namuyimbwa and another only identified as Pembeni.

The injured are admitted at Mpigi Health Center IV, Double Cure Clinic and Mulago National Referral Hospital.

Musana now appeals to motorists to observe road safety and traffic regulations especially as the festive season sets in.
