The African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights commences its 46th Ordinary Session today at its seat in Arusha, Tanzania.
According to the court’s Senior Information and Communication Officer Mr. Sukhdev Chhatbar, the session will run until September 22nd.
He says the judges, will among other things examine over 30 applications and four Requests for Advisory Opinion.
While speaking during a stakeholders’ meeting to review the Court’s communication startegy in Arusha on Friday, the president of the Court Hon Justice Sylvain Ore promised to use thsi session to table before the court proposals for improvement of information flow to and from tghe court.
The Ordinary Session will be followed by the 8th Extra Ordinary Session from 25-29 September, 2017.
The Court meets four times a year in Ordinary Sessions and may hold Extra-Ordinary Sessions.
As at 30th August, 2017 the Court has received 147 applications and has finalized 31 cases.
