Parliament’s Committee on Legal and Parliamentary Affairs will this morning interface with political parties, to seek their views on what has now been termed the age limit bill.
The Private Members’ Bill by Igara West MP Raphael Magyezi which is currently before the committee chaired by West Budama North MP Jacob Oboth seeks to repeal Article 102 (b) of the Constitution to lift the upper age limit for presidential candidates.
The Bill has been widely criticized as ill-intentioned and simply a vehicle for life presidency.According to the schedule for today, the committee will meet political party leaders starting at 10:00am.
Meanwhile the committee has written to the Speaker Rebecca Kadaga asking for extension of time to conclude its public hearings.
According to the Rules of Procedure, the committee has 45 days to compile its report, but the chairman Oboth Oboth says a delayed start has warranted a request for extension.
