Another OPM Official Convicted

Another Official in the Office of the Prime Minister is convicted before the Anti-corruption court for embezzling 34.6million shillings meant for PRDP programs.

She was facing 12 counts that include embezzlement, false accounting, and forgery and uttering false documents.

Justice Margaret Tibulya convicted Nakiwuge Rachael Muleke the National Coordinator for Disaster Risk Reduction in the Office of the Prime Minister, cancelled her bail and remanded her to luzira prison until 15th this Wednesday for sentencing.

Evidence of 21witnesses including OPM’s undersecretary Benjamin Nuwamanya proved that between 2010 and 2011 Nakiwuge embezzled 34.698.000shs meant for various activities in her department, and furnished false receipts plus accountability with an intention to defraud her employer OPM.

Evidence showed that the receipts and allowance sheets for funds Nakiwuge claimed to have paid to various officers, institutions and companies were disowned and others denied ever having received the said allowances or signed for them.

Key among them was an accountability form Nakiwuge forged purporting that various individuals wrote and signed allowances for a training on mapping disaster risk reduction in Uganda, at Hotel Afriacana on 9th /May/2011 whereas not.
