A standoff is expected this morning between city traders and the police.
This comes as the traders operating in city arcades plan to forcefully open their business even with the government’s directive on their closure to contain the spread of COVID-19 is still in place.
The traders’ had given the government a 3-day ultimatum that elapsed yesterday with Kampala City Traders Association asking its members operating in city arcades to open their business today despite warning from the police.
The association chairperson, Everest Kayondo says there is no difference between malls and arcades, adding that arcades in other parts of the country are open and so it is unfair to keep those in Kampala closed.
Kayondo however emphasises the need for the traders to observe the set Standard Operation Procedures.
