In a rather dramatic twist of events, Forum for Democratic Change leader Rtd Col Dr. Kiiza Besigye has made another unsuccessful attempt at the walk to work protest.

This was just minutes after he was arrested and released by the police over the same.

He managed to beat the heavy police deployment at his home in Kasangati through an escape route to Masoli, where he has again been arrested and whisked off to an unknown destination.

According to the Kasangati DPC, Stephen Tanuwi Besigye is under preventive arrest and cannot be allowed to leave his home.

He however does not state clearly the possible charges that could be preferred against Besigye. Besigye was earlier arrested and released as he attempted to take part in the walk to work protest this morning.

He was intercepted a few meters from his home and briefly held at Kasangati Police station from where he was driven back to his home gate in a police patrol car.

Unlike in earlier incidents, Besigye did not resist arrest this time. Earlier there was a scuffle before his arrest in which two people including a police officer and a journalist working with NTV Julius Senkandwa were injured.

The opposition Activists for Change launched the second phase of their walk to work protests over the increasing cost of living in the country yesterday.
