The acute shortage of blood in the country continues to paralyze work at the various health facilities.
The latest to be hard-it is the Uganda Heart Institute which has been forced reduced the number of patients seeking surgery due to lack of blood.
The Institute’s Executive Director Dr.John Omagino says the units of blood they are receiving from the blood bank cannot not satisfy the high demand for the same.
Earlier, there were reports that the Uganda Cancer Institute too had suspended major operations due to blood shortage.
Authorities at Nakasero Blood Bank have blamed the shortage on the fact that students who form the biggest percentage of blood donors are currently on holiday.
