Cardinal Wamala speaks in teachers’ support

Cardinal Emmanuel Wamala has added voice to those asking government to urgently address the concerns of the teachers before the situation runs out of control.

The cardinal blames the low quality of education in public schools on the poor remuneration of the teachers.

He says at 270,000 shillings; the teachers’ pay is the lowest compared to other civil servants.

He says that the general working conditions of civil servants in the country are also still wanting, blaming it for brain drain especially in key sectors like health and education.

Cardinal Wamala was closing a three day workshop organized by the Catholic Church on promotion of decent work.
