Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has been tasked to amend policies on garbage collection.

This was raised during a stakeholders meeting between garbage collectors, market vendors and the KCCA leadership.

Addressing the meeting, the Lord Mayor Erias Lukwango said there have been numerous complaints from the public concerning poor solid waste management in the city.

He says city dwellers have also raised concern over the exorbitant fees charged by garbage collectors contracted by KCCA.

Lukwago says some people are being charged Sh 30,000 irrespective of the quantity of garbage collected and yet the authority directed them to collect between Sh3000 –Sh30,000 depending on amount of garbage.

It is against this background that he says the laws should be amended to allow just a few companies to be awarded contracts that can be easily monitored.
