Police in Mubende district are hunting for a couple who abandoned their four children in deplorable conditions after failing to clear a loan.
Speaking to KFM, Marion Kutuusa, the acting commissioner child and family protection directorate of police, said the duo Annet Babirye and Fred Munyakabire have been on the run since last month for fear of being arrested over non-payment of a Shs330,000 bank loan.
They abandoned their children ages 6, 8, 11 and 14 years to their helpless elderly grand parents at Kareezi village, Kibaraga Sub-county, Kasambya county in Mubende district.
Kutuusa says the children’s plight was brought to their attention following a video that recently took rounds on social media after which a team headed by Edith Nanteeza, the officer in charge, Child protection, Mubende district rescued and took them to Mubende Police Clinic for medical care.
The children are currently sheltered at Miryante Children’s Home in Kyegegwa as police hunt for their parents who are to be charged with child neglect once apprehended.
