The Court Martial sitting in Makindye has resumed after a 15 minute adjournment that was meant to allow the defence team to study charges brought up against former spy chief Gen.David Sejusa.

The Defence team led by David Tumushabe raised concern before the seven man team chaired by Maj Gen Levi Karuhanga that they were not aware of the charges against their client.

According to the charge sheet presented by prosecution, Sejusa is accused of engaging in partisan politics yet he is a serving army officer.

According to the Government Spokesperson Ofwono Opondo, Gen Sejusa made sensitive sensitive political statements which is not expected of a serving army officer. One of the comments attributed to him is that “dictatorships are never reformed, they are dismantled”. It is however still unclear what the charges relate to.

Sejusa was arrested on Sunday and this is the first time, he is being charged for engaging in politics ever since he openly came out to oppose the sitting government. His attempts to be retired from the army have also so far been futile.
