Buganda Road chief magistrate Jamson Karemani has charged and remanded four Makerere University students accused of participating in a demonstration advocating for re-opening of Makerere University.

The students namely Kato Paul, Ainebyona Ronald, Kahigi Edmund and Waswa Crispus have been charged with taking part in unlawful assembly Contrary Section 65 and 66 of the Penal code Act which they have pleaded to not guilty.

These through their lawyer Adam Kyomuhendo have presented 8 sureties on which they have based on and asked court to release them on a non cash bail since they are students who are not employed anywhere.

However the magistrate denied them bail faulted the sureties for failing to produce in court tallying documents, which will make it difficult to tress the sureties incase the accused absconded.

The four have been remanded to Luzira prison until 17th November for hearing of this case.

Prosecution alleges that the 4 accused persons on 7th November along Namirembe with a common purpose caused fear and bleach of peace in the area.
