The electoral commission has cleared 8 presidential candidate for the forthcoming nomination after fulfilling the requirements needed for the exercise.
Under the presidential elections act, presidential aspirants are required to collect at least 100 signatures per district from two thirds of the country’s districts and cities as a precondition for their nomination.
The latest aspirants to be cleared are Patrick Amuriat of the opposition forum for democratic change and Mugisha Muntu of Alliance for National Transformation.
Others are Joseph Kabuleta and Katumba John both independents.
The EC acting spokesperson Paul Bukenya says the verification exercise of the remaining 14 aspirants is under way.
The commission earlier cleared president Museveni from National Resistance movement and Gen Henry Tumukunde Mwesigye Fred, and Nancy Linda Kalembe all independents.
Nominations will take place next week on Monday and Tuesday at Kyambogo University sports ground.
