Election observers have embarked on early preparations for the 2021 general elections.

Over 20 sub-national civic organizations from regions like Ankole, Acholi, Buganda East, Busoga and Bukedi among others have today convened in Kampala to explore opportunities for maintaining and strengthening a robust election observation framework.

According to the Chairperson, Citizens’ Coalition for Electoral Democracy in Uganda Dr. Livingstone Sewanyana, they want to come up with a long-term strategy of observing, documenting and making recommendations around improving electoral processes in Uganda.

“In some cases, election observation findings have been limited in terms of depth simply because observers restrict themselves to the election season.  Electoral processes begin immediately after the end of one election cycle” Dr. Sewanyana mentioned.

The meeting identified lessons learned from the 2016 election experiences with a view of strengthening future relationships and engagements around election observation.
