One shot dead in Entebbe Mayor elections

Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party has booked Tuesday 3 November as nomination date for their presidential flag bearer Dr Kizza Besigye.

In a letter signed and delivered by the party’s Electoral Commission deputy chairman, Mr Michael Kabaziruguka to the Electoral Commission, the party also seeks to book 10:00am for Besigye’s nomination.

“Owing to the change in nomination programme, I write to book Tuesday, November 3, 2015, 10:00am as the nomination date and time of our presidential flagbearer as presidential candidate in the 2016 general elections,” Mr Kabaziguruka wrote.

The party had earlier on booked October 5 for nomination after returning the nomination forms on Friday last week.

However, the Electoral commission issued a new road map this morning in which they postponed nomination dates to next month.

Speaking to journalist at the EC headquarters, Mr Badru Kiggundu said that the decision to push the nomination deadline was not as a result of pressure from the government.

“The decision to extend presidential nomination dates is our (EC) decision. No one dictates to us,” he said.

Mr Kiggundu also took time off to warn anyone planning to cause any form of violence through vigilante groups.

“We shall have beautiful, safe, free and fair elections if all stakeholders work together. It is only Uganda Police in charge of security during the electoral process, and not illegal militia or vigilantes,” Mr Kiggundu reiterated.
