Fort Portal Medical Doctor Indicted With Corruption of Shs 580,000

A medical Doctor attached to Fort portal Regional Referral Hospital David Kaggwa has been charged before the Anti-corruption court with Abuse of office and Corruption of 580,000shs.

He is said to have illicitly received the said money by using Government facilities to treat his private patients.

Prosecution states that between January and June/2013 while at Kagadi Hospital in Kibaale District, being employed in Ministry of Health and in abuse of his office, unlawfully used Kagadi Hospital facilities to carry out surgical operations of his private patients for personal gain and to the prejudice of his employer.

It’s alleged that Dr. Kaggwa received 180,000 from a one Juliet Tusemerirwein order to carry out a surgical operation on her husband one Mitara John, then received 250,000shs from a one OmuherezaKebirungi for another operation on his son Asaba Patrick, and 150,000shs from one KyamanywaIddi to also carry out an operation on his son AtugonzaKyamanywa.

He was granted bail with orders to pay 2million shillings cash, deposit his passport in court and his sureties to sign a non cash bond of 20million shillings and ensure that Dr. Kaggwa returns to court on 6th/August for trial.
