This follows Ferdsult Engineering Services Limited’s decision to quit the business after it made making a Shs1.4 billion loss between 2014 and 2016.
UEDCL, the company that owns the electricity distribution network assets Umeme Uganda Limited uses will now distribute power in Kibaale, Kyenjojo, Rukungiri, Kanungu, Masaka, Rakai and Isingiro districts.
According to UEDCL’s Chief Technical Services Officer, Franklin Kizito Oidu, the move means the government trusts UEDCL.
Ferdsult attributed the loss to the tapping of electricity and vandalism of electrical transformers to extract either transformer oil or copper wingdings for sale.
