This tax has since faced a lot of resistance from Ugandans, the most recent being a protest staged by Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi together with some journalists and musicians.

According to the ICT and National Guidance Minister Frank Tumwebaze, although many have opted for VPN to bypass paying this tax, the high cost they are incurring should be highly considered.

Tumwebaze says Ugandans should generously contribute to the economy by paying this tax if they are to get better services instead of criticizing government every time it borrows money to finance the same services.

He meanwhile adds that the reduction of mobile money tax from 1% to 0.5% charged on only withdraws says will promote technology.
