The government has reiterated its commitment to strengthen strategies to reduce malaria prevalence in Uganda.

Health Minister Dr. Jane Aceng says focus will be mainly on the West Nile, Lango, Karamoja, Busoga and Acholi sub regions.

In her message on the commemoration of the World Malaria Day, Acheng says they also plan to introduce a malaria vaccine for children below 5 years next year.

According to the Health Ministry, Uganda registers at least 16 malaria deaths per day with 25,000 cases.

Statistics also show that every year, more than 400,000 people die of malaria and 94% of these deaths occur in the African region, according to the World Health Organization.

In Uganda, the Malaria prevalence rate stands at 9%.
