Over 9,000 residents of Gulu district have appended their signatures on a petition, calling for the passing of an ordinance that bans the sale and consumption of waragi packed in sachets.
The residents mobilized by Religious Leaders under the Acholi Religious Leader Peace Initiative, collected the signatures within a period of two weeks.
Led by the Northern Uganda Diocese Bishop Johnson Gakumba the group held procession and handed over the petition to the district chairperson Martin Ojara Mapenduzi.

Bishop Gakumba, said unless an ordinance is passed to ban local brew packed in sachets, the future of youth in the region will be at stake.
