Headteachers and musicians have welcomed the ban on performing artists in schools.
The Ministry of Education on August 1 2022 announced a temporary ban on hosting performing artists in public and private primary and secondary schools across the country until guidelines regulating the same have been put in place.
The national chairperson of the Secondary School Head Teachers’ Association, Martin Okiria says that while musicians are invited to schools to shape talent among learners, some schools have in the recent past been seen to go overboard.
He says he has reviewed the videos and pictures that went viral on social media prompting the ban, and realized that indeed some of them were grossly indecent. He asks school authorities to be more careful when dealing with children.
Meanwhile, the former president of the Uganda Musicians’ Association Sophie Gombya has also welcomed the ban, saying some artists displayed total disregard for morality before the youngsters.
