Lukwago at High Court

The High Court in Kampala is today expected to decide on the fate of the embattled lord mayor Erias Lukwago.

The court is expected to give a ruling on an application filed by Lukwago seeking to block April 17th mayoral by-election.

In his application, Lukwago is seeking orders stopping the Electoral Commission from proceeding with the by- election to fill up his seat pending determination of a case in which he challenges his impeachment.

Lukwago says the Electoral Commission, Attorney General and minister for Kampala acted in contempt of court by declaring the seat vacant.

On November 25th 2013 the High Court issued and order restraining the trio from impeaching Lukwago.

Lukwago says the respondents have since disobeyed the court order, a move that could cause him irreparable damage if he is illegally and permanently removed from office.

High Court judge Lydia Mugambe is expected to rule on whether or not to block the mayoral by- election.
