Dr Nyanzi, a research fellow at Makerere University is accused of cyber harassment and offensive communication. She is currently inside the Judge’s Chambers alongside her lawyers led by Nicholas Opiyo and State Attorneys.

Dr Nyanzi is challenging the manner in which she was remanded to Luzira Prison, on 10th this month by Buganda Road Court chief magistrate James Ereemye Mawanda without entertaining her bail application.

Local and International media are currently packed in the corridor leading to Justice Kabanda’s Chambers which are tightly guarded by officers of the Counter Terrorism Squad.

High Court Judge Elizabeth Kabanda set this afternoon to rule on whether Dr. Stella Nyanzi is subject to a mental checkup.

Earlier this month prosecution led by Jonathan Muwaganya asked Buganda road court to make an order sending Nyanzi for a medical checkup, to know her mental status, which she challenged.

Prosecution says they heard information that Dr. Nyanzi’s medical status is not stable and that she was once on mental treatment at Butabika Hospital.

The judge is also to rule on an application filed by Dr.Nyanzi seeking a review on the conduct of Buganda Road Court chief magistrate James Eryemye to remand her to Luzira prison without entertaining her bail application.

In this session Justice Kabanda blocked all journalists from covering the proceedings.
