This comes days after the Electoral Commission announced 17th of April as the polling date.

Led by Kawempe North MP Latiff Ssebaggala, the legislators say the whole process is against the law with the embattled Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago is still in court over a petition in which he seeks to retain his seat.

Ssebaggala advises the Electoral Commission to get legal experts to help in interpreting the law to avoid such discrepancies.

The MPs’ move follows a similar decision by the opposition Forum for Democratic Party which announced that it would not field any candidate in the controversial mayoral race.

The Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago was impeached by a group of councilors following a KCCA tribunal report that found him guilty of incompetence.
