The opposition Forum for Democratic Change has questioned the leaders of Kampala Capital City Authority over their request for funds to enforce the KCCA Amendment Act 2020 that was assented to by the president last year.
According to the FDC Secretary-General, Nandala Mafabi, KCCA officials told MPs last year that there is no financial implication attached to this bill.
He says though, that after the bill had been passed, the same leaders are asking for funds from the government to implement the law.
Nandala says the FDC plans to drag the authority to court over the same to save the taxpayers’ money.
The acting Executive Director, Andrew Kitaka earlier told journalists that KCCA needed at least Shs8 billion to implement the amendments.
Kitaka added that KCCA needed another 3.3 billion Shillings for wages and allowances for the political leaders and 1.7 billion Shillings for support staff for the new positions.
