The minister for finance Matia Kasaijja has asked local construction companies to build competencies to enable them vie for bigger construction projects within Uganda.
He says that as government gets into the final stages of re-capitalizing the National Housing and Construction Cooperation, private construction firms too must up their game.
He adds that in the current financial year, government is undertaking construction of 41 tarmac roads but but all of these contracts have been awarded to foreign firms.
Minister Kasaija says that government is empathizing local content but just a few local firms can dare to compete for these bi projects due to lack of capacity.
