The house-maid who was caught on camera torturing a toddler has pleaded guilty to the charge of child abuse.

22 year old Jolly Tumuhiirwe has appeared before City Hall Court Grade one Magistrate Moses Nabende and asked for forgiveness from the child’s parents.

She was recently captured on a CCTV camera torturing a one and half-year old toddler.

In the video which went viral on social media, Tumuhiirwe is seen forcefully feeding a baby and torturing her.

The child’s father, Eric Kamanzi, had installed a camera after noticing his daughter was bruised and limping.

State prosecutor Joyce Tushabe told the court the maid was “remorseful” and had asked for forgiveness.

In the video, which is taken from a camera hidden in the corner of the living room, shows Tumuhirwe hitting the child when she resists feeding and then throwing her to the floor, beating her with a torch before stepping on her and kicking her.

Tumuhiirwe, who was not represented by a lawyer in court, now faces up to 15 years in prison for the crime.

She has been sent back to Luzira prison until Wednesday December 10th when she is expected to return for sentencing.

Her charge sheet had earlier been expected to be amended to include a more serious charge of attempted murder and not mere torture of an infant.

However, the spokesperson of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP)Jane Kajuga said the file had not been forwarded to the DPP for perusal and consideration for amendment.
