A 20 year-old man is being detained at Apac Central Police Station (CPS) in Northern Uganda for allegedly raping his 103-year-old grandmother.

The officer in charge Criminal Investigations Department (OC CID), Pamela Akullu, has confirmed that the suspect is in their custody.

According to the OC CID, the suspect broke into his grandmother, Jupenia Alira’s house in Amia B village last Saturday 8, July 2017 at around 4am; used excessive force and raped the old woman.
Akullu said they will soon produce him before court.

The suspect was arrested on Sunday from Aduku Town Council after a tip of by a security operative who was following this case. The old woman was rushed to Aduku HC IV for medical checkup on that same day.

The suspect reportedly apologized before the area LC1 chairperson, Mr Sam Abwon, for the crime he allegedly committed saying he wanted the matter to be settled out of court.

The victim says that the suspect vowed to kill if she raised an alarm while he attacked her.
