Lawyers representing former independent presidential candidate Amama Mbabazi have finally made a last minute petition attempt.

The lawyers led by Severino Twinobusigye have filed a petition before the Supreme Court to challenge the February 18th presidential election results. This was after they paid the court fee of Sh 400,000 and another Shs 1 m for security.

The petition has been received by the Supreme Court Registrar Tom Chemtai who says the hearing for this particular petition shall be handled through the weekends.

Meanwhile from the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) camp, the party president Maj.Gen Mugisha Muntu says all hope is not lost.

Muntu says they have been collecting evidence and are ready to file the petition tomorrow at 11am.

Both groups have been racing against time to beat today’s deadline of the ten-day window for filing a petition.

However, Supreme Court Officials have revealed that they have until Friday this week because there were several public holidays since Feb 18th and the weekends too are not counted.

The Supreme Court is expected to give a ruling on the petition in the next 30 days.
