The ministry of health has directed veterinary service providers to conduct an inspection to ensure only healthy animals are slaughtered.
The inspection will ensure that animal meat is safe for human consumption.
The state minister for animal industry Bright Rwamirama says among the other guidelines to ensure the safety of livestock products for human consumption, each butchery must have only two people serving at a time.
He adds that of those two, one handling money must not touch the animal products being served.
The minister has also directed all butcheries to mark with white paint areas for customers to stand while they wait to be served to ensure the 4-meter social distance rule.
