Ruhinda Member of Parliament Rtd Capt. Donozio Kahonda is expected in dock today for hearing of an application seeking to stay criminal proceedings against him.
The hearing was meant for Wednesday but Kahonda did not turn up, prompting High Court judge Yasin Nyanzi to issue an order directing him to appear in court today without fail.
Kahonda had sent his lawyer Caleb Mwesigwa to represent him at the hearing because he was indisposed but the judge insisted that the law on criminal matters requires the accused person to physically appear before court and that the legislator is no exception.
Kahonda who beat Justice Minister Kahinda Otaffire to take Ruhinda County parliamentary seat wants High Court to suspend criminal proceedings that were instituted against him before Jinja Magistrate Court in October 2015.
Kahonda is accused of forgery and uttering false documents at the Military Academy in Jinja district in November 2001.
