Parliament’s Rules and Privileges Committee has started investigating bribery allegations made against some members in the reports on UMEME.

Media reports in Octobers 2013 quoted Kiboga Woman MP Anna Nankabirwa accusing some members of the Ad hoc committee on energy that made the reports of having received some money from UMEME.

While appearing before the committee today, Ndorwa West MP Hon. David Bahati confirmed that the matter was raised by Hon. Nankabirwa in a caucus meeting against some members whom he refused to disclose.

Now the committee is set to hear from Hon.Nankabirwa and the managers of Protea Hotel from where the members are  alleged to have received these monies.

Meanwhile, Protea Hotel may be blacklisted if the owners continue to snub the rules and discipline committee to testify in the UMEME saga.

The proprietors of the hotel today failed to appear before the committee for third time running.

MPs Julius Maganda and Wilfred Nuwagaba say that the committee will invoke its powers and issue a warrant of arrest  the manager of the hotel.

It’s alleged that in a meeting held at Protea Hotel, MPs were bribed to drop a parliamentary report that recommended termination of UMEME’s contract.
