The education committee of parliament has condemned the continued practice of corporal punishment in schools.

This follows an incident last week where a teacher of Mpoma Royal College in Mukono assaulted one of his students.

It is alleged that the teacher beat and injured the student’s private parts as he awoke them for morning preps.

Speaking to Kfm the committee’s vice chair Jacob Opolot says such acts must be condemned and fought, further challenging teachers to respect students’ rights and urging the police to take action.

The student is still admitted at a Kampala health facility where he is receiving treatment.
